Romero leads in Puerto Rico

Argentine, Andres Romero, leads the Puerto Rico Open through 36 holes, consecutive rounds of 65 giving the 31 year old a one shot advantage over American Scott Brown whose second round of 63 was the best of the day.

Romero is a former winner on the PGA Tour having won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2008 but is perhaps best remembered for his near miss at the 2008 Open Championship at Carnoustie where he led by two at the 71st hole before a double bogey ruined his chances.

The leading Australian at the halfway stage is Cameron Percy who was not able to repeat his superb opening round of 65 but despite a bogey at the last today he recorded a round of 70 to be in a share of 6th position and five shots off Romero’s pace.

Nick O’Hern is playing in just his second PGA Tour event of the year and is in 31st position at 6 under and eight behind, while Rod Pampling and Matt Jones are the only other Australians through to the weekend.
