LPGA Tour in Hawaii for Lotte event

The LPGA Tour plays the LPGA Lotte Championship in Hawaii this week, the event getting underway on a Wednesday for one of the few times on the LPGA schedule.

Japanese star Ai Miyazato won the inaugural staging of the event last year and although her results have been mixed so far in 2013 her runner-up finish at the R.R. Donelley event suggests she could successfully defend.

The new world number one Inbee Park is likely to start favourite given her amazing run of success over the past twelve months . Park, who won the Kraft Nabisco at her last start, finished 12th in this event last year and given how regularly she puts herself in contention she should be in the mix on Saturday when this event draws to a close.

Stacy Lewis will be keen to reclaim her number one title after having only a few weeks to enjoy that honour. Lewis was disappointing at the Kraft Nabisco. The 28 year old surprisingly missed the cut in this event last year, a concern for her supporters.

So Yeon Ryu appears to be building to another win on the LPGA Tour. She has moved into the 5th position in the women’s game after finishing 3rd at the recent Kraft Nabisco event and did finish 4th in the event last year.

Karrie Webb has moved back into the top ten in the female game with a series of solid tournaments this year. Webb finished 12th in this event in 2012 and it is fair to say she is playing considerably better now than was the case then.

As Webb’s record in Queensland would suggest she does not mind playing in tropical conditions and on bermuda grass greens and could be in for a very good week.

Other Australians in the field are Lindsey Wright, Katherine Hull Kirk, Sarah Jane Smith, Sarah Kemp and Julia Boland.

New Zealander Lydia Ko gets the chance to again show her amazing talent, the 15 year old playing the event on invitation. Now the world number 22, even on such a limited schedule, Ko has solid recent form including a win at the New Zealand Open, a third place finish at the Australian Open and top twenty fives at the Thailand LPGA event and at the Kraft.
