The first of four Web.Com Tour finals begins this week with the Hotel Fitness at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne in Indiana where players ranked 1st – 75th on the 2013 Web.Com Tour money list and those ranked between 126th and 200th on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup points table will attempt to gain their PGA Tour cards over four weeks of career altering competition.
25 players from this year’s Web.Com Tour money list have already earned the right to play the PGA Tour next year although they are still required to play the four events in order to establish their ranking on the big stage next season.
The balance of the players therefore (125) are playing for the remaining twenty five 2014 PGA Tour cards.
Each event in the series is worth US$1 million although the money players have earned on the either tour this season now becomes null and void for the purposes of the Final Series their money list, positions reset to zero for the upcoming events.
The only exception to this is that the winner of the 2013 regular Web.Com Tour season gets full exemption for next year irrespective of where he finishes in the finals and a guaranteed start at the Player Championship.
This week’s event in Fort Wayne is followed by the Chiquita Classic in Davidson in North Carolina, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Classic in Columbus in Ohio and finally the Web.Com Tour Championship at Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida.
At the completion of the Finals those players who have secured their access to and ranking on the 2013 – 2014 PGA Tour will likely get a chance to play the first of four domestic PGA Tour events to finish off the year.
In addition to Bronson La Cassie, Tim Wilkinson and Danny Lee, who are assured of PGA Tour status next year, the field includes many Australasians chasing the right to either gain for the first time or regain the right to play the PGA Tour. Those players are Steve Alker, Ashley Hall, Matthew Goggin, Aron Price, Adam Crawford and Nick Flanagan from the Web.Com Tour and from the FedEx Cup points table, Cameron Percy, Nick O’Hern, Scott Gardiner, Alistair Presnell, Rod Pampling and Nathan Green.
For those who miss out on one of the 25 cards not already decided from the series then they will have acccess to the Web.Com Tour in 2014 and will be joined by the those who qualify through the new Web.Com Tour School to be held in early December.
