Leishman gets Price's nod of approval

Presidents Cup International Team Captain, Nick Price, has today finalised his side for the match-up against the Americans at Muirfield Village in October by naming Marc Leishman and Brendon de Jonge as his two Captain’s picks.
Leishman has no doubt been in Price’s sights since his magnificent 4th place finish at Augusta National but his 16th place finish at last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship no doubt sealed the deal when the likes of Tim Clark and Thongchai Jadiee were also in the mix.
De Jonge has hardly been a standout this season although he has played the last two FedEx Cup events very well including when 9th last week in Boston.
Clark missed the cut last week while leading Asian world ranked player, Jaidee, might be considered a little unlucky given his solid if unspectacular recent form although Price saw it differently.
“Yesterday was one probably one of the toughest days of my life,” Price said. “I had it down to three guys – Marc, Brendon and Tim Clark. To try and separate the three of them and only pick two was an exceptionally difficult task. You had experience on one hand with Tim, and then you had youth in the two rookies in Marc and Brendon. When push came to shove, it came down to who I felt is going to play Muirfield the best. This is one of those times when you wish there were 13 members of the Team.”
Fred Couples announced Webb Simpson and Jordan Spieth as his two additional players.
A reflection on the current form of the respective sides is that the last picked Spieth at number 28 in the world is the USA’s lowest ranked player while De Jonge is ranked 70th.
The Internationals will field seven Presidents Cup rookies while the Americans have only four and with those including two PGA Champions in Jason Dufner and Keegan Bradley, Brandt Snedeker and the brilliant Jordan Spieth then the relative strengths of the sides are further highlighted.
On paper it appears the Internationals face a monumental task to try and win the Cup for just the second occasion in ten encounters.
