Greg Owen leads Chiquita Classic

England’s Greg Owen has the lead at the halfway mark of the Chiquita Classic in Davidson in North Carolina, the tall 41 year old’s second round of 66 moving him one clear of Colombia’s Camilo Benedetti, recent Rice Cutter Charity event winner, Andrew Svoboda, former PGA Tour winner, Will McKenzie and Kris Blanks.
Owen is remembered for his late meltdown when leading the Bay Hill International in 2006 before being run down by Australian Rod Pampling and finishing second.
Another 20 players are within five shots of the lead so a real battle is looming to grab a piece of the prizemoney action by Sunday in this the second the Web.Com Tour finals.
New Zealander Tim Wilkinson, already assured of a place on the PGA Tour in 2014, recorded a round of 66 today to lead the Australasians in 9th position, Mathew Goggin and Nick O’Hern are 24th, Steve Alker 33rd, Bronson La’Cassie 40th, with Scott Gardiner and Aaron Price just making the cut.
