American Andrew Svoboda has improved his ranking on next year’s PGA Tour by winning the Chiquita Classic in Davidson in North Carolina after a playoff with Will MacKenzie, his second victory in a month on the Web.Com Tour.
Svoboda, who gained the final 2014 PGA Tour card via the season long Web.Com series of events, has now improved his standing which will enhance his prospects of starts in early season events next year.
The 33 year old returns to the PGA Tour having played eighteen events there in 2013 with little to show for it.
Svoboda led into the final round at the River Run Country Club along with John Peterson and appeared to have the event in his keeping before a late bogey and an eagle at the final hole by former PGA Tour player MacKenzie saw the need for a playoff.
Svoboda only needed a par at the first extra hole to win his second Web.Com Tour event, just a month after his first at the Price Cutter Charity Championship in Missouri.
New Zealander Tim Wilkinson finished as the leading Australasian in 14th position while Aron Price led the Australians in 24th position.
The Web.Com Tour finals now head to Columbus in Ohio for the Nationwide Childrens Hospital Championship, the penultimate event of the Web.Com Tour finals.
Scott Gardiner, who despite finishing 47th this week, remains as the leading Australasian performer to date in the final series and should regain his PGA Tour card for 2014.
