The Web.Com Tour takes a one week break this coming week before the Tour Championship is played at Dye’s Valley Golf Course at Ponte Vedra Beach in California and as they head into that event 21 year old Korean Noh Seung Yul has the lead in the Web.Com Tour Final series.
Today Noh won the third and penultimate event of the Finals, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Columbus in Ohio adding US$180,000 to his earnings.
Noh, who has just completed his second season on the PGA Tour, has now guaranteed himself a return to the big league next year as a result of the US$210,000 he now has to his name from his 7th place finish in Indiana two weeks ago, his missed cut last week and now this victory.
Noh has always been a precocious talent since joining the Asian Tour as a 16 year old and winning rookie of the year honours that year. He finished 3rd at the PGA Tour School in 2011 and in his first season in 2012 earned more than US$1.2 million. 2013 has not been so good however and he was forced to return play the Web.Com Tour finals.
Noh today started the final round with a three shot lead and despite an early bogey he was never really in danger of letting that lead slip eventually winning by five over Edward Loar with John Peterson third and two time 2013 Web.Com Tour winner Ben Martin in 4th position.
The leading Australian was Bronson La Cassie who continued his good recent form when he tied for 7th this week and although already on his way to the PGA Tour his continuing good form will be important when he begins his PGA rookie season in October.
Rod Pampling was 22nd and Mathew Goggin 37th.
Scott Gardiner is currently the only other Australian guaranteed of PGA Tour status in 2014 despite missing the cut this week. He has slipped from 3rd after the opening event to 11th but he has enough of a cushion to be assured it would seem of regaining his card.
