Kennedy 4th at Panasonic Open
Asian Tour | 2013 Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open | Wrap | 29 Sep 2013
Second season Japan Tour player, Masahiro Kawamura has recorded his first win on that Tour and in doing so has also secured status on the Asian Tour also by defeating Sung Joon (Andrew) Park at the co-sanctioned Asia Pacific Panasonic Open near Osaka.
Kawamura birdied his final two holes to catch and pass Park who had led by three with three holes to play. Park, currently second on the money list following a series of high finishes, bogeyed his 16th and 17th holes to open the door for the winner.
For Park, who spent a considerable amount of time in New Zealand developing his game, it was his 4th runner-up finish of the season to go with the victory he recorded at the KBC Augusta event a month ago.
2009 PGA Champion Y.E. Yang appeared as if he might be the man to beat when he moved into contention through ten holes of today’s final round before a triple bogey at the 11th cost him any chance. Yang did however bounce back with three consecutive birdies soon after to finish outright third.
Queenslander Brad Kennedy continued his good season in Japan by finishing in a share of 4th while South Australian Wade Ormsby, playing the event because of its co-sanctioning with the Asian Tour, finished a creditable 7th in his very first event as a professional in Japan.
Kennedy is now in 11th position on the money list this season, three places behind Canberra’s Brendan Jones who was forced to withdraw from the event he has won previously through injury.
The Japan Golf Tour now moves north to Nagoya for the Tokai Classic.
