Katayama wins first event in five years

Japan’s Shingo Katayama, gained revenge for a playoff loss in the event last year when he today won his 27th Japan Tour title but his first in nearly five years when successful in a playoff against Hidemasa Hoshino and Satoshi Tomiyama to win the Coca Cola Tokai Classic in Nagoya.
The trio finished three ahead of Kunihiro Kamii.
Only nine players finished under par in the demanding conditions including the pre tournament favourite Peter Uilhein who last week finished runner-up at the Alfred Dunill Links Championship.
David Smail did best of the Australasians when he tied for 22nd, Mike Hendry was 41st,Kurt Barnes 46th and Steve Conran 52nd.
The Japan Tour now heads to the Gifu Prefecture near Nagoya to play the Toshin Tournament followed a week later by the Japan Open in Osaka.
