Japan Tour plays lead in to Japan Open

The Japan Golf Tour is in Gifu Prefecture for this week’s Toshin Golf Tournament in Central, a lesser event on that Tour but one which might provide the opportunity for those languishing on the money list a chance to catch up.
The event is being played for just the 4th occasion but for the first time at the Toshin Golf Club’s Central Course near Nagoya.
Given the smaller purse, that there is a series of big events coming up and that Hideki Matsuyama is playing in this week’s Frys.Com event in California the field is not as strong as earlier events in the season but it still offers opportunity for those near the money list milestones needed to regain status.
Several of the leading players are taking the chance to rest before what is building as a hectic schedule over the next few weeks.
The event is the lead-in to next week’s lucrative Japan Open where no doubt the field will be back at full strength.
Australasians in this week’s field however are Kurt Barnes, Michael Hendry, Aaron Townsend and David Smail.
Barnes and Townsend need good finishes in the events they can secure starts if they are to regain their Japan Tour status.
