Macdonald goes further ahead at Keperra

Taylor McDonald might not have been at the brilliant best he was in the opening two rounds of the Keperra Bowl at the Keperra Country and Golf Club in Brisbane today but his 3rd round of 69 in breezy conditions extended even further his six shot 36 hole lead and as the 21 year old heads into tomorrow’s final round he leads by seven over local Ashley Grosvenor.
Macdonald threatened to blow the tournament even further apart when he eagled the first and birdied the second on day three but he was unable to progress further from there and now sits at 16 under but enjoying a comfortable buffer.
Two late birdies by Grosvener at least kept some hope of challenging the leader tomorrow alive but it will take something special from him and a very poor day from the leader it would seem if there is to be a shock result on the final day.
NSW golfer, Travis Smyth, produced the equal best round of the day, a 65 to move into a share of 3rd position with fellow New South Welshman Jordan Zunic although a massive eight shots from Macdonald’s lead.
The other player to shoot 65 today was New Zealander, Josh Munn, who earlier in the year won the Lake Macquarie Amateur Championship. Like Macdonald, Munn will be off to the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in China next week so after a slow start this week he has found form at the right time.
But the tournament is now Macdonald’s to win or lose and given the manner he has played this week then it will be a surprise if it is the latter.
