Felton claims Queensland Stroke Play
23 Oct 2013
Jarryd Felton (Gosnells) has captured the 2013 Qld Men’s Stroke Play Championship with commanding final day rounds of 68 and 71 to defeat Anthony Quayle (Hills) by five shots at the Pacific Harbour Golf Club today.
Overnight leaders Thomas Horan of Victoria and AJ McCoy (Royal Queensland) struggled in the third round, opening the door for Felton to fire into the lead after his 4-under round. Despite opening a 6-shot buffer, Felton could not take his foot off the pedal as blustery conditions promised an intriguing final afternoon.
Quayle also rocketed into contention, firing a sublime four-under in the final round, he had a nervous wait to see if he could add to his Gary Player Classic victory of last month. Felton was not to be denied and held his nerve to be the only player to complete the tournament under par.
James Gibellini (Emerald Lakes) battled strongly to claim third place, a further four shots back.
The top 16 players from the stroke play will now be headiing to Southport Golf Club on the Gold Coast to compete in the Queensland Men’s Amateur from Thursday to Saturday.
