Forty five Australasians will be hoping to start off the year in style by making the grade at the Asian Tour 2006 Qualifying School Final Stage starting tomorrow in Malaysia.
45 hopefuls including the 2005 Von Nida Tour winner, South Australian Adam Bland, as well as former World No.1 Amateur Michael Sim will be among the 217 golfers that will tee off at the Palm Resort Golf and Country Club in Senai, Johor. They will battle for the forty tour cards at stake.
Victorian Heath Reed will look to recapture the form that saw him reign supreme when he carded a one over par 73 in the final round at First Stage last week, giving him the lowest four day total of 271 at the Tanjong Puteri Golf and Country Club’s Straits Course in Pasir Gudang, Johor.
Other notable players vying for a 2006 Asian Tour card include former Tour winner David Gleeson from Queensland and 2002 Australian PGA Champion Jarrod Moseley. Young New Zealander Brad Iles will also be hoping to continue his good form after he finished tied for 6th at the season ending MasterCard Masters on the Australasian Tour. Iles, who suffered from a near fatal accident in 2004 has turned his form around and looks set to take on the golfing world in 2006.
2005 Australasian Tour School winner Ewan Porter, as well as two time 2005 Von Nida Tour winner Michael Wright who finished on top at the Palm Resort Cempaka Course in Stage 1, will also be amongst the 217 players that will be making their way to the Allamanda Course and Cempaka Course tomorrow, with only the top 100 and ties from round two tomorrow progressing to the third round on Friday.
