Leaney starts well at Japan Q-School

The opening round of the Final Stage of qualifying for the 2014 Japan Golf Tour was played today over two courses in southern Honshu and West Australian Stephen Leaney has done best of the Australasian brigade.

Leaney produced an opening round of 66 to be in a share of 3rd position and just one shot behind the lead.

The leading ninety players at the completion of 72 holes will advance to the final 36 holes at the conclusion of which a ranking for the 2014 Tour is established.

Essentially however a player needs to be inside the top 40 to have an genuine prospect of several starts next year

Steven Jeffress had 68, Steven Jones and Anthony Brown 69, Won Joon Lee, Darren Beck, Richard Lee and Peter Wilson 70, Adam Bland and James McLean 72, Matthew Guyatt 73, Anthony Summers 74 and Kurt Carlson 75.
