Smith and Elliott doing well at Q School

BY Bruce Young | 08 Dec 2013

West Australian Kristie Smith has staged a great fight-back after an illness earlier in the week had set her back at the Final Stage of Qualifying for the LPGA Tour.

Through 72 holes of the 90 hole Final event, Smith has improved to 34th position and although she needs further improvement to finish inside the top 20 and earn full status, she has moved within striking distance of doing so.

Smith today added a fourth round of 70 with birdies at three of her last eight holes to open an opportunity for tomorrow’s fifth and final round.

Smith probably needs a round of 68 tomorrow to earn full status although an even par round of 72 should give her some LPGA Tour status in 2014.

Breanna Elliott is also doing well as she added a strong round of 69 on day four to share 34th position with Smith. Elliott had limited LPGA Tour status in 2013 but secured only seven starts..

Stacey Keating and Frances Bondad are 52nd and Rebecca Artis 63rd.

They were the Australian players to make the cut and keep alive their chances for tomorrow’s final round.
