Queensland State Team and Queensland Academy of Sport member, Kevin Marques has announced he has moved into the professional ranks.
24-year-old Marques has enjoyed an outstanding amateur career, highlighted by winning the Malaysian Amateur Championship in May.
The Indooroopilly Golf Club member said although he did not quite achieve everything he would have liked to as an amateur, it was the right time for him.
“It was my plan to turn professional since early this year and mentally I feel ready for the next step in my career,” Marques said.
Marques will be heading to Thailand in February for Asian Qualifying and hopes to walk away with a full tour card.
“At the moment my focus is on Asia and starting my career over there but in the coming years I would like to compete on the European Tour and then in the US.
“I’d like to thank my family for their support and my coach Tony Mahoney who I’ve been working with for a number of years. Also, Golf Queensland and the QAS program. It’s a great program and it truly does prepare you to compete with the best.”
