The Australian Amateur Championships for both men and women begin in Adelaide on Tuesday January 14th, the Grange Golf Club’s East and West Courses providing the perfect facility to stage such a large event.

The event begins with the first of two rounds following which the leading 32 players in the Australian Women’s Amateur Championship from an original field of 72 will advance to the match play phase.

216 players will play the opening two rounds of the Men’s Amateur Championship with the leading 64 players advancing to the match play.

The women’s field is head in terms of world amateur ranking by Victorian Su Hyun Oh although the world number five Minjee Lee is the defending champion and is expected to do well.

Hannah Green, Grace Lennon and Hayley Bettencourt are also expected to do well if the favourites falter.

In the men’s field the recent winner of the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship, Lee Chang woo will start as one of the favourites. Lee will play the Masters in 2014 courtesy of his win in China.
