The first event of the inaugural series of PGA Tour’s China series, The Mission Hills Haikou Open on the resort island of Hainan off the southern coast of China begins on Thursday when 23 Australians and two New Zealanders tee it up at the Sandbelt Trails course.
The event represents the first in a series of twelve events through 2014 each worth US$200,000 and underwritten by the US PGA Tour.
Qualifying for the Tour took place in March with twenty players at each of the two qualifying venues gaining full access although the field has extended beyond that group as not all have taken advantage of their new found status.
The leading Australians include Aaron Townsend, former PGA Tour player, David Lutterus, 2012 British Amateur Champion Bryden Macpherson and Stephen Dartnall.
The top-five money winners at the end of the PGA TOUR China Series will earn 2015 playing privileges on the Web.com Tour. This is identical to what is offered on PGA TOUR Canada and the NEC Series – PGA TOUR Latinoamerica. In addition, all exempt and conditionally exempt 2014 PGA TOUR China Series’ players are automatically exempt into First Stage Qualifying for the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament.
