Westwood returning to best in Malaysia

Lee Westwood was on fire again in the second round of the Maybank Malaysian, carding a six under par 66 to take a comfortable halfway lead at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

At 13 under par, the 40 year old has a four stroke advantage over his nearest rivals, Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts and Antonio Lascuna of the Philippines, while England’s Danny Willett signed for a 66 to move up to fourth place on eight under.

When asked about his obvious recent improvement, which included a 7th place finish at last week’s Masters, Westwood said; “I’ve started working with Mike Walker about six or seven weeks ago. I saw an immediate improvement on the range but at first it was difficult to take it onto the golf course. But the last few weeks I’ve managed to do that, which is very pleasing.”

Westwood’s last European Tour victory came nearly two years ago at the Nordea Masters. Nicolas Colsaerts has also gone nearly two years without a win, his last success coming at the 2012 Volvo World Match Play Championship.

Scott Hend leads the Australians at 4 under par and shares 13th place nine shots from the lead while South Australian Wade Ormsby is one shot back in 18th position.
