Wie claims 3rd LPGA Tour title

Michelle Wie has today won the LPGA Lotte Championship at the Ko Olina Golf Club on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, completing her third LPGA Tour title but her first in nearly four years with a two shot victory over long time leader, Angela Stanford, and three over world number one and defending champion Inbee Park.

Wie has found a rich vein of form in 2014, this her fourth top ten in seven starts and she has not been outside the top twenty this season.

Wie came from four shots off the fifty four hole pace with a final round of 67 and even a bogey at the last could not dampen the excitement of the 24 year old who has at times suffered from the wrath of the golfing world.

She is now however a significantly more complete individual and golfer than was the case in her mid teens when she and her minders seemed hell bent on taking on the golfing world rather than just the LPGA Tour but with that now behind her she is on track to reach the top of the female game.

Queenslander Katherine Kirk has ben in the golfing wilderness over the last two years or so but today she produced her best LPGA Tour finish in more than 14 months when she tied for 9th.

Lydia Ko was the next best of the Australasians when she finished 32nd while Sarah Jane Smith was 67th.
