Pampling runner-up at WNB Classic

Texas is notorious for its winds and today provided even further evidence of just that when the Web.Com Tour’s WNB Classic in Midland was cut short by blustery conditions that made the course virtually unplayable.

The event became a 54 hole tournament and, as such, the third round standings became the final positions with Andrew Putnam winning his first Web.Com Tour title when winning by seven shots over Australia’s Rod Pampling and Richard.S. Johnson.

Play was called when the final group was through seven holes with Putnam at that stage eight shots ahead of the field. His final margin of seven however was yet another big winning margin at the Midland Country Club, Marc Leishman having set a record when winning the event by 11 shots in 2008. Mind you Putnam achieved his margin over 54 holes.

Rod Pampling now no longer enjoys status on the PGA Tour but enhanced his chances of eventually getting back there with his runner-up finish.

Pampling’s previous best result anywhere was when 7th in this event twelve months ago so he has an obvious liking for the Midland layout.

Mathew Goggin, too, showed improvement on recent efforts his share of 4th place securing him his best finish since his runner-up effort at the Panama Claro Championship over a year ago.
