LPGA plays Shootout in Texas

BY Bruce Young | LPGA Tour | 2014 North Texas LPGA Shootout | Preview | 29 Apr 2014

The LPGA Tour moves from California to Texas this week and more specifically, Dallas, where it plays the North Texas LPGA Shootout at the Las Colinas Country Club.

This will be the second staging of the event, Inbee Park having won in its inaugural year last season.

Inbee Park will start as the favourite but perhaps only just ahead of Stacy Lewis who is in fine form this season.

Lewis battled Lydia Ko all the way last week in San Francisco before finishing runner-up and a win this week would see her move to number two in the world ranking ahead of Ko who is not in this week’s field.

Ko’s next event is likely to be at the Kingswood event in Virginia in two weeks time.

Lewis has been inside the top ten in an amazing fifteen of her last sixteen starts and with a 7th place finish in this event last year she is likely to be the player to beat.

Park is certainly playing well enough to successfully defend having also put together a great run of form since her last LPGA Tour victory at the US Women’s Open last year. A last round of 67 in this event gave her a one shot victory over Carlota Ciganda and she does not seem far from that level of form at present.

Michelle Wie took the lead on the 2014 money list recently and is playing near the peak of her form. She should go on with that this week but did not play the event last year which might have helped in assessing her chances.

Australians in the field are Katherine Kirk, Lindsey Wright, Sarah Jane Smith, Sarah Kemp and Julia Boland, while Stacey Keating and Kristie Smith are hoping their limited status might still get them starts from the reserve bench.
