Lee leads in Korea Hend contends

South Korean Lee Kyoung-hoon leads the Caltex Maekyung Open at the Namseoul Golf Club in Seoul by two shots over his fellow Korean, Park Jun Won, and by three over another Korean in Kim Woo-hyun and Australia’s Scott Hend.
Lee, who is a regular on the Japan Golf Tour finishing 8th at the Crowns Tournament last week in Nagoya, stormed home in 31 for a round of 66 after an early draw on day two.
The 22 year old Lee has won only one title in Japan but he has developed into a regular top ten finisher on that tour.
Lee missed the cut in his only other start on the OneAsia Tour this season in Jakarta but he is generally considered one of South Korea’s most promising young players.
Hend took a while to get going today but a run of four consecutive birdies in his back nine moved him within two of the lead and the three time Asian Tour winner in 2013 now has the chance to win his first One Asia event in one of his very few starts on that tour.
Victorian, Bryden Macpherson, and former PGA Tour player, Michael Sim, are the next best of the Australians tied in 13th position.
Macpherson is a former British Amateur Champion and following a good week at last year’s Australian Open now has a start at the Open Championship this year while for the immensely talented Sim this is an encouraging week for him having been lost in the golfing wilderness for some time.
This is only the 5th cut Sim has made in his last seventeen starts anywhere but he is a player good enough to have led the then Nationwide Tour money list in earlier years and played the PGA Tour.
