Kerr chasing 4th Kingsmill Championship

BY Bruce Young | LPGA Tour | 2014 Kingsmill Championship | Preview | 13 May 2014

The LPGA is in Williamsburg Virginia this week for the Kingsmill Championship Presented by JTBC where three time winner Cristie Kerr will be looking to continue her great run at the Kingsmill Resort’s River Course.

The defending champion Kerr won in 2005, 2009 and last year when she won after a playoff with Suzann Pettersen and with several other good finishes at the layout she must again be a chance in 2014.

With seven consecutive top tens in recent months Kerr has another reason to feel confident about her chances.

Pettersen is a previous winner of and last year a runner-up in this event and although there have been injury issues this season she did play well at the North Texas LPGA Shootout two weeks ago and may well be ready to continue what has been a good record over this golf course.

So too might Karrie Webb another previous winner and runner-up and although off the boil a little in recent starts she has had an overall good season to date. Revisiting Kingsmill might help get things going again.

Lydia Ko plays the event first the first occasion but that did not stop her winning the Swinging Skirts event recently and the world number three should be a chance again.

The LPGA Tour’s latest winner, Stacy Lewis, has been inside the top ten in this event in the last two times she has played and has finished outside the top ten on only two occasions in her last twenty events. It is hard to imagine she is not going to be in the firing line somewhere late in the tournament.

Paula Creamer and Anna Nordqvist are others who have form on the golf course and are playing well

Australians in the field are Karrie Webb, Katherine Kirk, Sarah Jane Smith, Lindsey Wright, Sarah Kemp, Julia Boland and Stacey Keating,
