Champions Tour plays second major

Following on from last week’s opening major championship of the year at the Regions Traditions event in Alabama, the 75th Senior PGA Championship will be played this week at the Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor in Michigan.

Pre tournament favourites are Bernhard Langer and Kenny Perry.

In eight starts on the Champions tour this season Langer has been outside the top three only twice and when you throw in yet another top ten at the Masters it has been a phenomenal year for the 56 year old.

Perry has also been in good form winning in Alabama last week and, although he has struggled in his few appearances this season on the PGA Tour, Perry has won the last three major championships on the Champions Tour and is expected to be to the forefront once again.

Australians in the field are Peter Senior, Steve Elkington and Peter Fowler.

Elkington played well at last week’s Regions Traditions event when he finished 9th, Senior has yet to record a top ten this season although he does typically play the stronger events well and Fowler gets his chance because of his efforts in the US Senior Open last year and because of his good play on the European Senior Tour.
