Australians added to US Women's Open

BY Bruce Young | 22 May 2014

With just a few Sectional Qualifying venues remaining to be contested for those chasing a place at the US Women’s Open at Pinehurst, five Australians have been assured a start at the event beginning at Pinehurst # 2 beginning on June 19th.

Karrie Webb and Katherine Hull having earned their way into the field through world ranking, money list or other criteria, the Australian challenge further strengthened by the inclusion of Minjee Lee, Stephanie Na and Nikki Campbell, those three players gaining their starts in the female game’s greatest event via Sectional Qualifying.

Campbell and Na finished inside the qualifying mark at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club in England this past Monday while the current Australian Amateur Champion, Lee, led the qualifiers at her venue in Minnesota on the same day.

There are another ten venues where qualifying is still to be decided so there exists the opportunity for one or two other Australians to play their way into the field.
