Stedman takes Mining Series Lead

BY Bruce Young | 29 May 2014

Ed Stedman has come from three shots behind in the final round of the Moranbah Mini Earthmovers Pro-Am to take the outright victory and the lead in the PCR Polyweld Mining Town Series through the Central Highlands of Queensland.

Stedman defeated Kristopher Mueck and Paul Hayden by one shot in the 36 hole event.

“You can’t beat the community feeling here in the Mining Towns though particularly here in Moranbah," said Stedman after his win. "I came up to QLD this trip with a distinct goal of being in contention in the PCR Polyweld Mining Town Series and having now done that, it would nice to get the job done on Sunday”

After carding a new course record of 8 under par 64 in round one Harrison Russell couldn’t repeat his efforts shooting an even par round of 72 to finish in a tie for fourth position.

Ryan Fowler produced the shot of the day with a hole in one on the 18th hole in front of a healthy crowd. Fowler’s perfectly hit a seven iron was his sixth hole in one but only his first as a PGA Professional and he received a $1,000 bonus thanks to La Crèma Cafe for his efforts.

The PCR Polyweld Mining Town Series is nearing an end and with just two rounds to go Stedman leads by just one stroke at 34 under par from Queenslander Brett Rankin with New Zealander Jared Pender and Queenslander Tim Hart in a tie for third at 29 under par.

The professionals now head to the Dysart Onsite Rentals Pro-Am for the final leg of the QLD Mining Towns swing of the Choice Hotels PGA Pro Am Series starting on Saturday
