Streelman takes Travelers Championship

35 year old Kevin Streelman has turned around some very ordinary form of late by producing a stunning seven consecutive birdie finish to win the Travelers Championship at the TPC Highlands near Hartford, his second PGA Tour title.

Streelman won by one shot over Sergio Garcia and K.J. Choi with Aaron Baddeley alone in 4th position and Brendan Steele and Ryan Moore sharing 5th.

Two early bogeys in his final round had Streelman some six shots from the lead and while those ahead of him would make some progress his whirlwind finish put paid to the likes of Garcia, Choi and Baddeley, that trio appearing the most likely before Streelman’s late burst.

Streelman played in Australia late last year at both the World Cup where he and Matt Kuchar represented the USA and at the Australian Open although he withdrew at Royal Sydney through health issues.

The victory follows his breakthrough PGA Tour title in Tampa last year during a rich vein of form but importantly turns around a run of four consecutive missed cuts.

Baddeley had a share of the lead before bogeys at the 11th and 12th and Streelman’s fast finish cost him his chance. He was still alive playing the last but a poor drive cost him the chance of the birdie he needed to force a playoff. Still, for Baddeley, it was a continuation of improving form.

Marc Leishman further highlighted his liking for the golf course on which he won his first PGA Tour title by recording a final round of 67 to finish in a share of 11th.

Stuart Appleby and Jason Day finished 18th with Day putting together a final round of 65.

The PGA Tour now heads to the Congressional Country Club in Washington for this week’s Quicken Loans Championship which sees the return of Tiger Woods to competitve play.
