Peter Fowler well placed in Pittsburgh

Bernhard Langer has won twenty Champions Tour titles but the Constellation Senior Players Championship is not yet one of them. That might all change this week when the event is completed on Sunday at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh.

Langer has a two shot lead at the halfway stage of the event over Doug Garwood and Bill Glasson in one of the flagship events on the Champions Tour but Australian Peter Fowler is just two shots further back and within four of the lead.

Fowler, who does not have status on the Champions Tour, was a relatively late entrant into the event having gained a start by a cumulative points table over the past 12 months including a 6th place finish at the Senior Open Championship. Fowler typically plays the European Seniors Tour where he performs very well.

Fowler followed up his impressive opening round of 65 with a 68 today and is nicely positioned in 8th place heading into the weekend.

“I feel quite comfortable with the course and am really enjoying it,” said Fowler earlier in the week when asked about yet another visit to the Champions Tour. “Because I was first or second reserve and because I had a week off beforehand I made the decision to arrive early and had a couple of practice rounds to get to know the course.”

Peter Senior is in 44th position and has safely made the cut.
