State Team member Won Joon Lee (Concord) led from wire-to-wire in taking out the NSW Amateur Championship Medal today at Strathfield Golf Club.
Won Joon shot outstanding rounds of 63, 71, 66 and 68 to finish on 16 under par, eight strokes clear of 2005 Medal winner Gary Wolstenholme (England), and 2004 Medal winner Richard Gallichan a further two shots behind in third place.
After shooting a course record at Ryde-Parramatta in the first round, Won Joon maintained composure and played consistently well for the final three rounds to give the rest of the field a run for their money.
Lee’s top form has carried on from the Lake Macquarie International Championship last week where he finished in third place. With his continued form over this weekend, Won Joon has shot a total of 30 under par for two four round tournaments in two weeks.
The round of the day went to Damon Welsford (Cronulla), who shot a new course record 65 in the final 18 holes.
The top 32 players will now head to Concord for the match play starting Wednesday to see who will take out the NSW Amateur Championship for 2006.
