Quick turnaround for LPGA Tour

The LPGA Tour rushes back across the Atlantic and to Sylvania in Ohio for the Marathon Classic Presented by Cornings at the Highland Meadows Golf Club, an event that has been very much part of the LPGA Tour for nearly all of the last twenty three years.

The event was not played in 2011 but that aside it has a long history as an LPGA Tour event.

The tournament has done well to attract such a good field given the timing after the Women’s British Open

Spain’s Beatriz Recari defends the title she won by just one shot last year, but Recari has struggled for much of this season after winning twice in 2013. She did played quite well last week at Royal Birkdale but she is well below where she was at last year. She does though have two other top tens in the event to her name so it is a golf course she enjoys.

The game’s two leading ranked players, Stacy Lewis and Lydia Ko are in the field as are Lexi Thompson, Michelle Wie and So Yeon Ryu from the top ten in the Rolex Rankings.

Also in the field is last week’s breakthrough winner at the Women’s British open, Mo Martin who has actually played this event well enough in two starts but it is hard to imagine her feet will be on the ground by Thursday given her life changing week last week.

Angela Stanford might well be one for longer odds for those considering an investment on the event. Stanford has finished 5th and 2nd in her last two starts at Highland Meadows and has played very well in recent weeks including when 5th last week at the British open and runner up in Arkansas.

The Australians in the field are Katherine Kirk, Sarah Jane Smith, Lindsey Wright, Sarah Kemp, Stacey Keating, and Julia Boland.
