Australians play Callaway World Junior

The Callaway World Junior Golf Championships begin this week in southern California where six divisions for both boys and girls begins at a series of courses in the region.

Most attention will focus on the 15-17 year age group where in the men’s field Ryan Ruffels, Curtis Luck, David Michuleszzi, Jack Trent, Kevin Yuan and Frazer Droop represent Australia over at the famed Torrey Pines .

In the same division for the girls, Rebecca Kay, Olivia Molino, Shelley Shin, and Celian Yuan are the Australians to tee it up.

No Australian girls have experienced success in the event but Richard Moir (13-14 age group) in 1997, Andrew Buckle in 1999 and 2000, Jason Day in 2004, Mathew Giles in 2006 and Karl Vilips (9-10 age group) in 2012 are Australian boys to have won a title at the time honoured championships which were first played in 1968
