American Eric Egloff and Australians Luke Hickmott, Craig Carmichael and Aaron Townsend are the four players who successfully progressed into this week's Johnnie Walker Classic after pre-Qualifying was held today at the Mount Lawley Golf Club in Perth.
Egloff, from Cleveland Ohio and a member on the PGA Tour of Australasia after he finished second at the 2005 PGA Tour Qualifying School, closed three shots ahead of a crowded field, shooting a round of 65 (-7).
Five players finished behind Egloff on 68 and a six hole play-off ensued. Players were battling for the final three places and two alternate spots. Involved in the playoff were Aaron Townsend (NSW), Craig Carmichael (ACT), Luke Hickmott (Vic), Ben Bloomfield (Qld) and Peter Nolan (Vic).
Aaron Townsend was the first player to progress through when he parred the first hole, bettering the four remaining player's scores.
It wasn't until the fourth hole that Ben Bloomfield was eliminated after a double bogey, becoming the second alternate for the event. Luke Hickmott successfully made it through on the next hole, making birdie and Craig Carmichael followed on the 6th, birdying the hole and relegating Peter Nolan to first alternate.
Note: Australians Tony Carolan and David Diaz automatically qualified for the Johnnie Walker Classic when American Brett Schwarzrock and Australian Terry Price withdrew. Carolan had finished his round at Qualifying shooting a course record 64, whilst Diaz played just three holes before learning he had progressed through.
The Johnnie Walker Classic starts Thursday February 9 at The Vines Resort and Country Club, Perth, Western Australia.
