Australian golfers feature at the halfway stage of the Porter Cup at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston in New York.

Victorian Geoff Drakeford, who last week finished runner-up at the Southern Amateur Championship in Tennessee, continued on from where he left off last week with a second round of 66 to move one ahead of New York’s Gavin Hall.

New South Wales golfer Dale Brandt-Richards is one shot back in a share of 3rd position.

Ben Eccles from the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria is four form the pace and on his own in 12th position while Queenslander Simon Viitakangas, who opened with a round of 66 yesterday, slipped back with a second round of 72 but he is still well enough placed in1 3th position and five from Drakeford’s lead.

The 72 hole event has a great history in US Amateur golf with major winners such as Phil Mickelson, Ben Crenshaw, Scott Simpson and David Duval amongst its previous winners.
