Dodt takes lead at Capricorn Classic

Former European Tour Winner Andrew Dodt has continued on from yesterday’s opening round, taking a two-shot lead into the weekend of the 2014 Pat O’Driscoll Real Estate/Tropical Auto Group Golf Classic,
After an impressive opening round 67 around the Championship course, the Queenslander fired five birdies on his closing nine in today’s second round to sign for a seven under par 65 and post a two-round total of 12 under par. Clint Rice moved into outright second on 10 under after a 66 on the Resort course today, while local favourite Adam Blyth finds himself in a tie for third three shots behind.
The winner of the Avantha Masters in 2010, Dodt is looking forward to the opportunity of winning his first major professional tournament on home soil. “A win at Capricorn this week would certainly be a great confidence booster heading into a busy schedule over the next few months,” Dodt said following his round.
“This is my second trip to the Capricorn Classic and I have been very impressed with what I have experienced thus far. I am really starting to feel good about my game at the moment and it would be great to see the putts continue to fall over the weekend.”
Pre tournament favourites, Daniel Popovic and Scott Hend have somewhat struggled over the opening two rounds to be sitting in 29th and 49th respectively. It is far cry from where they would like to be on the leaderboard, though with 36 holes still to be played a couple of good rounds could see them finish with the week off with a good result.
Round 3 of the Pat O’Driscoll Real Estate/Tropical Auto Group Golf Classic tees off at 6:40am tomorrow morning, with Andrew Dodt due to tee off on the Resort course at 12:20pm.
