Jarrod Lyle has surprised even himself with his impressive return to tournament golf at the Midwest Classic in Kansas.

Lyle finds himself in a share of 9th position after rounds of 67 and 69 at the Nicklaus Golf Club in LionsGate in Overland Park.

“It’s close to being really good,” Lyle told, after his opening round of 67 yesterday. “I’m happy with 4 under today and it’s something to build on. It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be at the start of the week.”

“My only goal was to play four days,” Lyle said. “That’s pretty much all I came here to do. I just want to see how I fare after four days.”

Steve Allan leads the Australians in a share of 5th position although six shots behind the leader, Zack Sucher who has impressed this season on the Web.Com Tour.

Other Australasians to make the cut include last week’s runner-up New Zealander Steve Alker who is now assured of a place on the PGA Tour next season. Alker shares 9th position with Lyle.

Rod Pampling is 20th, Aron Price 26th, Alistair Presnell 37th, Adam Crawford 49th and James Nitties 61st.
