Five Australasians advance at Western Am

A strong representation of Australasians numerically at the Western Amateur Championship at Beverly Park Golf Club in Chicago, has resulted in five making the cut in the 72 hole event.

Perhaps the amateur game’s hottest golfer at present, Geoff Drakeford of Victoria, is tied in 3rd position with New Zealander Josh Munn and four shots behind the leader and local golfer, Doug Ghim, while Victorian Lucas Herbert is tied for 7th, Brisbane’s Taylor MacDonald is 21st and Gold Coaster, Cory Crawford, is 30th.

In order for those players to get through to the match play phase they must finish inside the top sixteen player at the completion of all 72 holes.

Ghim broke the course record set by Tom Weiskopf 47 years ago when he recorded a second round of 63.
