Won Joon Lee playing at his home course, the superbly presented Concord Golf Club, continued his run towards another title by being the first player into the semi-finals with a solid 5/4 win over a gallant Rohan Blizaard (NSWGC).

He meets Scotland’s, Scott Jamieson, who had a hard fought 3/2 victory over Ryde-Parramatta Golf Club’s Kyu-Ha Sim. Jamieson, also a big hitter, is expected to match it stroke for stroke with Lee in what should be a gripping match.

Well credentialled Englishman, Gary Wolstenholme, ended the run of defending champion Mitchell Brown (Bankstown GC) with a very close 3/2 win. Brown had fought back from 5 down at lunch, after Wolstenholme had won four holes in a row with a marvellous display of putting, to be two down with 13 holes to play. However, they then halved 10 holes in succession before Wolstenholme, for the second time in the 36 hole match, sank a monster on the 16th hole of the course (34th hole) to birdie and take out the match.

In the tightest match of the day State Team buddies, Richard Gallichan (Toukley Golf Club) and Tristan Lambert (Liverpool Golf Club) swapped the lead several times before Gallichan won three holes in a row between the 25th and 30th to go 3up. However, it was not until they halved the 34th hole that he sealed the match 3/2.

Tomorrow’s semi-finals commence at 8.00am at Concord Golf Club with a truly international flavour in both matches.
