Curtis Luck remains as the only hope for Australian representation in the match play phase of the US Amateur but even then it is a slim hope as the West Australian is forced to return tomorrow (Wednesday US time) to try and gain one of the four remaining places available from a 17 man playoff.
Luck added a second round of 72 at the Riverside Course at the Atlanta Athletic Club to finish in a tied for 61st position amongst the more than 300 attempting to qualify but he now faces a big task when he returns to that same course tomorrow morning to try and force his way into the field.
Luck’s fellow West Australian Jarryd Felton missed out by one shot of making the playoff despite a much improved second round of 70. Also missing by one was Victorian Lucas Herbert.
The leading Australian after round one, Taylor MacDonald, faltered with a round of 79 on day two and missed by two, as did Ryan Ruffels while Todd Sinnott and Kade McBride were even further back.
Medallist honours went to local golfer Lee McCoy and Oklahoma’s Taylor Moore.
