Ortiz victory ends Web.Com Tour season

Mexican Carlos Ortiz has earned a Battlefield Promotion to the PGA Tour via his third win of the season at the Winco Foods Portland Open in Oregon today although that immediate elevation is of little use as with the Fed Ex Cup Playoffs currently underway and the 2015 season not starting until October then he would have been eligible to play either way.
Still for 23 year old Cortiz he has again displayed his remarkable talent in what is his rookie season.
His one shot victory over Jason Gore and Andrew Hadwin victory takes him more than $190,000 clear of the second placed player on the money list, Andrew Putnam, and stamps him as one to watch when he does eventually get to the PGA Tour.
James Nitties led the Australians when he finished in a share of 5th with New Zealander Steve Alker, the finish more important for Nitties as it moved him from 97th to 70th on the money list and assures him of a place in the Web.Com Tour Finals beginning next week where he keeps alive his chances of a PGA Tour return.
Alker is already assured of playing the PGA Tour again in 2014 having finished well inside the all-important top twenty five on the money list but he too will play the Finals to determine his actual ranking next year.
Mathew Goggin tied for 41st, Adam Crawford 46th and Rod Pampling 57th.
Next week’s opening event of the Web.Com Tour Finals therefore will see Steve Alker and Cameron Percy (both assured of PGA Tour status next year), Steve Allan, Rod Pampling, Ashley Hall, Alistair Presnell, Aron Price, Adam Crawford, Mathew Goggin and James Nitties making the field via the top 75 on the money list and Greg Chalmers, Bronson La Cassie and Scott Gardiner making it through as a result of finishing between 126 and 200 on the FedEX Cup points table
