Touring professional Neven Basic has recorded a first round of nine under par 64 at Tura Beach to lead the Bega Cheese NSW PGA Championship. He leads long hitting Paul Marantz and journeyman Jason Norris by two shots after the morning session of round one at the Sapphire Coast’s only Von Nida Tour event.
Most of the low numbers from round one came from the Tura Beach course with the players taking advantage of the relatively calm morning conditions and its reachable par five’s.
At the Pambula Merimbula course Larry Austin and Mitchell Harry recorded the morning low rounds of six under par 67’s. Austin’s round was blemish free and included six birdies on the tree lined layout.
Austin graduated from the PGA Traineeship program in 2000 and has accumulated over 20 wins on the Victorian and New South Wales Pro Am circuits. Recently Austin has taken some time away from golf to concentrate his efforts on building his own house in the local area.
Tura Beach local Professional Mitchell Tasker made a solid start to the tournament finishing at four under par after his round at Pambula Merimbula. Tasker will be playing his home course of Tura Beach tomorrow morning and will be looking to make the most of the morning conditions.
Scoring is not predicted to improve with the forecast sea breeze moving in around lunch time. Tomorrow will see the draw reversed, with today’s morning players contending with the afternoon conditions.
