Queenslander Simon Nash finds himself at the top of the leaderboard in the Bega Cheese NSW PGA Championship after shooting a nine under par round of 64 around the Pambula Merimbula course. Nash is tied with New South Welshman Neven Basic after round one.
Highlighted by his wedge game Nash recorded ten birdies, including five in a row from the 12th to the 16th hole and found himself at ten under par with one hole to play. An errant shot on his final hole led to his only bogey as he relinquished the outright lead.
Nash, who finished third at the 2005 New Zealand Open has recently acquired his Asian Tour Card and plans to spread his time playing both the Asian and Australasian Tours in 2006.
Basic and Nash hold a one shot lead over Jacobs Creek runner up Michael Sim. Further back is a tightly packed field including the long hitting Paul Marantz and journeyman Jason Norris.
Tura Beach local Professional Mitchell Tasker made a solid start to the tournament finishing at four under par after his round at Pambula Merimbula. Tasker will be playing his home course of Tura Beach tomorrow and will be looking to make the most of the morning conditions.
Victorian Steve Jones decided not to wait for Sunday’s pay check and instead picked up $2,500 for a hole in one at the 18th at Tura Beach.
