The PGA of Australia today announced the 2006 Cadbury Schweppes Australian PGA Championship would be held 7 – 10 December at the Hyatt Regency Coolum on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The announcement was made at a joint press conference releasing the entire summer of golf dates with the PGA Tour of Australasia, Golf Australia and IMG. The significance of all of these golfing bodies working closely to promote the ensuing summer of golf schedule demonstrates a significant and historic level of cooperation amongst all of the parties.

Mr Max Garske, Chief Executive Officer of the PGA said in a statement “The PGA is delighted to be working with the PGA Tour, Golf Australia and IMG to promote our flagship summer tournament. The Cadbury Schweppes Australian PGA Championship has gone from strength to strength in the past five years in Queensland and our strategic plan moving forward promises to be innovative and exciting.”

Also at the press conference Mr Garske stated that the PGA is also committed to providing elite pathways for Australia’s emerging golf talent to grow and prosper particularly through the Von Nida Tour which the PGA supports with joint partner PGA Tour of Australasia.

“The PGA is committed to making this a viable and self sustainable Tour in the short term and to continue to build on its strength. The PGA recently appointed former tournament professional David Podlich on a full-time basis to oversee the Von Nida Tour and the PGA also under-writes the five State PGA Championships”.
