Michael Sim finds himself one shot behind Matthew Ballard at the Bega Cheese NSW PGA Championship after shooting a second round of five under 68 at Pambula Merimbula. Ballard followed up his first round 67 with 65 around Tura Beach to be at 14 under par and one shot clear.
Ballard’s focus is currently on the Australasian Tour where he finished 12th in the 2005 MFS Australian Open. Residing in Queensland, Ballard spends much of his time practicing with his coach Gary Edwin out of the Glades Golf Club on the Gold Coast.
Sim made a slow transition to professional golf missing his first four cuts however he now seems to be finding his feet after his runner up finish in the Jacobs Creek Open. Sim is growing in confidence with every event and his first professional victory is perhaps not too far away.
Sim is playing in next week’s Toyota Southern Classic Von Nida Tour Event before heading home to Western Australia to fine tune is game in preparation for his US Nationwide Tour season.
With the afternoon field still to complete their second round the leaderboard may still change with overnight leader Neven Basic still on course.
The final two rounds will be completed around the Pambula Merimbula course with the field being cut to the top 50 professionals plus ties after round two.
