Sydney-sider Mitchell Brown will start tomorrow's 36-hole final of the Australian Men's Amateur Championship as a warm favourite after outlasting the 2005 runner-up, Victorian Andrew Tampion, at the 20th hole of a tense semi-final this afternoon at Royal Hobart.
Brown, from Bankstown Golf Club, who won the 2003 Australian Men's Stroke Play Championship before progressing to the semi-finals of this event that year, is currently ranked 12th on the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Brown and Tampion are both members of the Golf Australia National Squad. Tampion is ranked 16th in the world.
Brown's opponent in tomorrow's final will be New South Wales Colts team member Tim Stewart. Stewart, 21, from Sydney's Monash Country Club, defeated Golf Australia National Squad member Jamie Arnold at the 19th in his semi-final, and Michael Choi 1 up in his morning quarter-final. Stewart went undefeated through last year's Interstate Men's Colts Teams Matches in Perth - another elite match play event.
Tomorrow's final will commence at 9:00am Australian Eastern Daylight Time with the afternoon round of the final starting at 1.15 pm. The match will be played at Royal Hobart Golf Club.
