The Asia Pacific team fought back strongly against Europe on the first day of the prestigious Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy in Auckland.
Down 4.5 to .5 after the morning fourball matches, Asia Pacific won three of the five matches in the afternoon foursomes to narrow the gap to 6.5 to 3.5.
The team was led by the Kiwi pair of Josh Geary and Mark Purser who beat Marius Thorp (Norway) and Joost Luiten (Netherlands) in their foursomes match 4 and 3.
It was a strong come back for the Asia-Pacific team after they did not win a match in the morning's foursomes. The best the team could salvage was a half from the talented Korean pair of Kyung Tae Kim and Sung Hoon Kang who played Joost Luiten (Netherlands) and Julien Guerrier (France).
The Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy is being staged over three days at Auckland Golf Club and features 24 of the best amateur golfers from 18 nations around the world.
The outstanding pairing of England's Gary Wolstenholme and Oliver Fisher birdied five of their last eight holes in the morning's fourball to beat the top Asia Pacific combination of Australia's Won Joon Lee and Andrew Dodt 3 and 2. The combination also birdied four of the final nine holes in the afternoon to snatch the match 1 up from the Australian pair.
There will be another five fourball matches and five foursomes matches tomorrow followed by 12 singles matches on Friday.
