Europe have retained their three point advantage after a superb morning fourball competition on the second day of the Sir Michael Bonallack Trophy in Auckland.

All five morning fourball matches were decided on the 18th green - two games each to Europe and Asia Pacific with one match all square at the Auckland Golf Club.

The New Zealand pair of Mark Purser and Josh Geary scored the scalp of the leading European combination of Gary Wolstenholme and Oliver Fisher (both England) 2up. The other win for Asia Pacific went to the Japanese duo of Yuta Ikeda and Yuki Ito, who birdied the final five holes to snatch victory against the previously unbeaten Welsh duo of Nigel Edwards and Zac Gould - 1up.

Europe replied with wins to Antti Ahokus (Finland) and Pedro Oriol (Spain) over Ben Leong (Malaysia) and Anujit Hirunratanakorn (Thailand) 1up while Ireland's Rory McIlroy and Richard Ramsay (Scotland) beat Australians Won Joon Lee and Andrew Dodt 1up.

Sung Hoon Kang, who partnered Korean compatriot Kyung Tae Kim, buried a 2m birdie putt on the final hole to square their match against Marius Thorp (Norway) and Joost Luiten (Netherlands).

The quality of the golf was superb with the fourball combinations registering 70 birdies and two eagles from the 20 players.

The Kiwi pair have the opportunity for a rematch against Wolstenholme and Fisher in this afternoon's foursomes clash.

There is a final 12 matches of singles tomorrow.
