Beaufils retains halfway lead at QLD Medal

Surfers Paradise Golf Club member Ray Beaufils has posted a second round 68 (-4) this morning to lead the Queensland Medal at Indooroopilly Golf Club.

Beaufils backed up his first round 66 (-6) to be at 134 -(10) and take a two shot lead into the third round over local player and National Squad member Ben Pisani. Pisani played well, however finished with 2 bogeys for a 70 (-2) to add his his first round 67 to be at 137 (-7).

There was some impressive scoring today with Mitchell Krywulycz (New South Wales) and Kunal Bhasin (Indooroopilly) both carding rounds of 64 (-8) to jump into contention. 18-year-old Krywulycz carded eight birdies in his round to be at six under after his first round 74. Bhasin managed to eagle the 10th hole and birdie 6 other holes in his round. Both players did not card a bogey.

Kiwi Leighton James (The Grange) played well with a 70 (-2) today to be at 138 (-6) and Paul Donahoo (Indooroopilly) carded an even par 72 today to remain in touch with the leaders and is tied with Bhasin at 139 (-5).

A total of 67 players qualified for the final 36 holes tomorrow. The leading group will finish approximately 4:30pm and spectators are welcome.

The players will also have in mind one of the top 16 places that will give them a place in the Queensland Amateur Championship (matchplay) that will be contested at Gold Coast Burleigh Golf Club from next Tuesday 2nd to Friday 5th May.
