Day two of the Queensland Amateur Championship commenced this morning at Gold Coast Burleigh Golf Club with the quarter finals. The Gold Coast Burleigh layout has been prepared in immaculate condition in yet another perfect day with temperatures in the low – mid 20s.

The semi-finals tomorrow (Thursday) will see some quality matches with prodigy Jason Day (Hills) going head to head with Kevin Lee (Oxley) in what should be a fantastic battle. The other semi will see Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) scholarship holders Ray Beaufils (Surfers Paradise) and Nathan Uebergang (Indooroopilly) play off for a place in the final.

Queensland Medalist and number one qualifier Jason Day was tested by Mark Boe (Emerald Lakes) earlier today going to lunch all square (after 18 holes). Day would win four of the first five holes in the afternoon round and build a lead that was never really threatened after that. He went on to win his match 6 & 4.

Talented young Korean born golfer Kevin Lee (Oxley) led all the way in his match and from his 3 up lead at lunch, he went on to win 4 & 3 against Caboolture golfer Luke Paroz. Lee is happy with his game at the moment and the 17-year-old will be a tough opponent for Day tomorrow. Both players are in excellent form and the semi should produce some quality golf.

Yesterday’s albatross maker Ray Beaufils (Surfers Paradise) defeated Queensland Junior Team member Warrick Betts (Indooroopilly) in what was a see-sawing contest. Beaufils was 6up through 13 holes and went to lunch at 5 up. Betts fought well throughout the afternoon match getting the match back to 2 down after 28 holes, however the deficit proved to be too great and Beaufils eventually triumphed 3 & 1.

Beaufils is in good form and was the halfway leader in last week’s Queensland Medal after rounds of 66 (-6) & 68 (-4), however faded in the last 2 rounds to finish in 6th position.

Forcing his way into tomorrow’s semi final, Nathan Uebergang defeated Indooroopilly clubmate Ben Pisani. Uebergang played some spectacular recovery shots throughout the day and won his match 2 & 1. Both Beaufils and Uebergang are huge hitters of the golf ball and tomorrow’s match up will be interesting viewing.

All matches are over 36 holes and the quarter final results are listed below:
Jason Day def. Mark Boe – 6 & 4
Kevin Lee def. Luke Paroz – 4 & 3
Nathan Uebergangen def. Ben Pisani – 2 & 1
Ray Beaufils def. Warrick Betts – 3 & 1
