Diaz dominates Von Nida with victory in SA

David Diaz has continued his dominance of this season's Von Nida Tour, claiming his second title of the year today at the Cadbury Schweppes South Australian PGA Championship. His win in the Barossa propelling him to the top of the all important Von Nida Tour Order of Merit standings.

South Australia's hopes of a local victory depended on the fortunes of David Lutterus, Adam Bland and Andrew Johnson. All had their chances during the last day round, before back nine faults paved the way for an interstate claim of the championship.

Gray and Diaz fought on gamely until midway through the back nine until Diaz stamped his authority on his third Von Nida Tour title and cruised to a comfortable one shot victory. This week's win making him the only man with three titles in the Tours short three and a half year history.

West Australia's Dean Alaban equalled the Tanunda Pines course record and leapt into the runner up position finishing only one shot behind Diaz alone at 8-under par.

Throughout his 15 year long career he has claimed titles such as The Coolum Classic, the Qld PGA and the Vic Open but leaves no doubt that this is his best year on tour to date.

Young South Australian Amateur Peter Cooke finished on top of the three remaining Amateurs to take away Amateur honours.

The event was hindered by poor weather for three of the four days play but scoring remaining steady with seven players for the sharing the course record 67.

The Von Nida Tour moves to Western Australia at the end of the May for the Western Australian PGA Championship.
